President Mahama dismisses CDS General Oppong-Peprah, other military chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Defence Staff, along with several other senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.
General Oppong-Peprah, who was appointed to the position in January 2024 after the retirement of Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, will be replaced by Brigadier General William Agyapong, who has been named the new Chief of Defence Staff by the President.
The move, along with a major reshuffling within the Ghana Armed Forces, was disclosed in a statement dated 17 March and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications.
The statement mentioned that the outgoing service chiefs had an audience with the President, who conveyed his gratitude for their service:
Earlier today, President Mahama met with the outgoing Service Chiefs, led by Chief of Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at the Flagstaff House.
The President expressed his thanks for their dedicated service to the country and assured them that he would continue to value their extensive experience and expertise in his efforts to reset Ghana.
